Is Alternative Energy Really Needed in 2009

By Alexis Jameson

At the moment, in the world we live in, the primary source of energy is derived from petroleum or oil if you like, and other mineral derived energy resources. Oil is a commodity that can quite literally send countries to war and hold others to ransom. Unfortunately oil and mineral energy is not as easily renewed as it is depleted, and it is for this reason that renewable energy resources are being constantly sought and tested, some of them very successfully.

Because mineral energy sources are rapidly being depleted, it is really up to every man in the street to do his bit not to waste any form of energy. This is where energy saving starts, at grass roots level. However, even if you still drive that Hummer to work with only yourself in the car, don’t worry, you won’t be forced to ride a Toyota Prius just yet. So it is not all doom and gloom (perhaps).

There is a very great need for alternative energy resources, and at the same time there will be some incredible opportunities to be created for making money out of this. There is a huge consumer demand for mineral energy replacement sources. It makes very good sense that we all make a great effort to reduce our dependency on petroleum and other mineral resources. Technology to accomplish this is already available, and large, world-wide, multinational companies are investing huge amounts of money into getting environmentally friendly energy resources off the ground.

Various cheap and convenient, as well as clean forms of energy are already available. For instance solar panels for heating water and homes have been used for many years already. As well as solar power, we find geothermal power, wind and other energy solutions which have extremely low carbon emissions available.

Countries globally have state controlled utility companies; these are investing a great deal of money into finding suitable replacements for mineral energy resources. This money goes towards finding renewable solutions which are easily sustainable. Green resources have quite literally become the thing of the future and the sooner we have them available the better.

India has already in 2007 installed an 11 Gigawatt renewable source of power, most of which investments to support this, are being placed in wind energy. India has the largest total population of any other country in the world. They are also placing a great deal of research and development capital into both solar and bio-fuels.

Various countries are already placing emphasis on the fact that investments into energy resources have to be directed at renewable resources. They are planning to make this mandatory, so in many instances power companies are quite literally pouring investment money into this kind of research.

Governments are offering incentives to power related companies to attract foreign investment into renewable energy resources.
